South Korea Recognises Cryptocurrency As Assets



South Korea’s Supreme Court has recently confiscated 191 Bitcoins from a man who operated on a pornographic site, therefore, recognizing cryptocurrencies as assets, reports South China Morning Post.

This is the first time cryptocurrencies have been confiscated in the country. The court has seized 191 Bitcoins worth approximately $2.3 million, which the man, called Ahn, earned on pornographic sites.

“The cryptocurrency is recognized to have value so it can be confiscated,” the Supreme Court stated.

Venezuelan Digital Coin Presale Fetches $3.3Bln – Maduro


MEXICO CITY - A presale of Venezuela's state-backed virtual coin called petro has raked in $3.3 billion, President Nicolas Maduro said.
Maduro said in a statement on Thursday the proceeds would be transferred to the central bank to be auctioned off via foreign exchange platform DICOM, according to the AVN news agency.

Scammers Launch Fake ICO; Steal $2M From Investors


According to CNBC, the scammers used a fake profile on LinkedIn and stole pictures from another Instagram account to create a fake person — and were then able to get more than 1,000 investors to invest in Giza, its so-called ICO project. Investors who fell victim to the ICO scam told CNBC that they thought they were investing in a real project until red flags started to arise — such as the fact that the company had a falling out with its only supplier, and a lack of communications from the founders of the startup. Investors were also unable to get back lost funds, leading to the revelation that they had been scammed.

Spanish banking giant Banco Santander is set to roll-out a personal payments app for retail customers powered by Ripple’s blockchain technology in Q1 2018.

Nigeria’s SureRemit raises ₦2.5 bln ($7m) via ICO


Nigeria-based non-cash remittance platform SureRemit has raised ₦2.5 bln (US$7 million) via an innitial coin offering (ICO) to roll out its digital voucher system that makes payments easier and cheaper.
